- -n/--delete sends the same protected/size-skipped/scope as a real run, so
the read-only would-delete walk no longer over-reports (row -> caveat)
- --delete-delay charges --max-delete on actual removals and recursively
re-scans a refilled deferred directory at commit; independent deferred cap
- --info=name emits the leading ./ root line and name2 'is uptodate' lines
- differential tests promoted from residual pins to rsync parity assertions
- --bwlimit: faithful port of rsync 3.4.1 parse_size_arg (default KiB/s,
binary K/M/G/T/P, decimal KB/MB, KiB/MiB, decimals, 0 = unlimited, 512-byte
floor, (size+512)/1024 quantization). Unit tests + docs.
- --info: wire del/remove/name/flist/nonreg/progress to real FastSync events in
rsync's line format (deleting PATH, sender removed NAME, name lines,
'sending incremental file list', skipping non-regular file "NAME"); name no
longer aliases copy; --info=progress drives the progress path and report_stats.
- --ignore-errors: match rsync's default -- a source I/O error skips deletion
unless --ignore-errors, while the readable tree still transfers and the run
exits 23. Covers all delete timings and both send paths.
- --delete-delay: count/track only entries actually removed; a directory
refilled before commit (ENOTEMPTY) no longer inflates Number of deleted
files or the --max-delete budget (unit + integration + rsync differential).
- --stats: per-type Number of files breakdown; only stored regular files
count as transferred; transferred/literal byte totals and Total file size
(symlink target lengths) now match rsync for whole-file transfers.
- --progress: print the leading ./ root line and include the root entry in
the to-chk denominator (single-file output byte-identical to rsync).
- --out-format %C: use the selected transfer checksum and render every
algorithm exactly like rsync; checksum_digest_file gains md4/sha1/none.
Reclassify --out-format to Divergent (protocol-specific %b/delta-%c).
- Docs: RSYNC_COMPAT tally 107/25/24, HANDOFF update. No wire change.
Address findings from the four-agent review of PR #298:
- file_create: zero the new File.matched_bytes. It was uninitialized
malloc memory, so the receiver could sum a garbage value into
STATUS_STATS "Matched data" (nondeterministic --stats divergence and
an uninitialized-heap disclosure on the wire).
- send_append: load the source into memory before hashing/copying the
prefix and tail. Files >64 MiB without compression (and --sendfile
runs) are streamed without loading, so --append/--append-verify
dereferenced a NULL data->data and crashed.
- filter_file_append: clamp the rollback to the surviving rule count.
A "clear" rule in a merge file frees every rule including the
caller's; the old rollback rewound count to rules_before and
resurrected freed pointers for a double free / UAF. Also roll back
when set_rule_owner fails instead of leaving owner-less rules.
- filter_rule_parse: reject the xattr-name filter modifier (x), which
was parsed and silently reinterpreted as a filename rule (affecting
what --delete protects). The p modifier stays accepted (existing
grammar test).
- Remove two dead functions: compression_default_algo and
change_render_itemize_code.
- tests: free ctx->would_delete in the two test_multiprocessing manual
teardowns (ASan leak, 1648 bytes/run).
- docs: correct the RSYNC_COMPAT/HANDOFF tally (156 rows: 106/27/23),
downgrade --info/--debug to caveat with their silent categories, add
%C-vs-xxh64 and --delete-delay count caveats, refresh stale xattr
mode comments, and document -p special-bit (setuid/setgid/sticky)
parity plus its mitigations.
rsync's %c counts the block-checksum bytes received: even a whole-file
transfer with no basis receives rsync's 16-byte sum header (append and
inplace included), while a dry run receives nothing. FastSync's
whole-file path has no equivalent header, so report 16 for parity when
delta is inactive, keep 0 for dry runs, and keep the real received bytes
when delta is active (FastSync's signature framing differs, so delta %c
stays divergent). Add a strict %c/%l/%n differential against rsync and
turn the %b check into a real rsync differential (semantics: both count
wire bytes and exceed %l; the exact values are protocol-specific).
Add the STATUS_STATS end-of-transfer receiver report (matched/deleted
counters plus a would-delete path list) behind the report_stats wire
bool, and a read-only delete_extras_list walker. --stats now renders
true wire byte totals and the receiver-reported deleted count; a
server-contacting -n --delete prints transfer-relative '*deleting' lines
matching rsync's itemize layout.
Bump PROTOCOL_VERSION to 2.25.0 and append a report_stats bool to the
config frame, add a STATUS_STATS status, and add process-wide wire byte
counters (protocol_bytes_written/read) for the client.
Render the rsync 3.4.1 --out-format %b (wire bytes sent) and %c (wire
bytes read back) tokens from per-file counter deltas, and %C (whole-file
xxh128 checksum, seed 0) via a new streaming checksum_digest_file().
#291:
- Compile --exclude/--include/--exclude-from/--include-from into the SAME
ordered rule list as --filter/-f (first match wins), so the common
`--include='*.txt' --exclude='*'` idiom and include-alone semantics match
rsync. The legacy per-kind scanner arrays are no longer applied.
- -x/--one-file-system emits the cross-device mount-point directory entry
(empty) instead of dropping it, in both the sequential and parallel scanners.
- Stop passing the legacy arrays to the scanner; document -f is --filter.
#292:
- New src/shared/format.c/.h: rsync "big_num" (comma-grouped integers) and
decimal -h human sizes, %M/%t timestamp, and the STATUS_DEST_INFO codec.
- Receiver answers each STATUS_CHECK with a pre-transfer destination snapshot
(new report_dest_info wire field + STATUS_DEST_INFO, PROTOCOL_VERSION
2.23.0) so the sender can render true itemize columns.
- Itemize now emits rsync-correct update/type chars and c/s/t/p/o/g columns
for files, dirs, symlinks and hard links, comparing size/time/perms/owner/
group against the reported destination.
- --out-format gains %i %n %f %l %b %M %t %o %p %B %U %G %L; %f is the
relative display path, %M the YYYY/MM/DD-HH:MM:SS form, %b the literal
bytes sent.
- --list-only prints transfer-relative names, directory entries and ls-style
grouped sizes.
- --stats prints rsync's multi-line block on stdout; -h uses decimal units.
Tests: unit tests for the filter ordering, format primitives, itemize
columns; integration + differential tests against real rsync 3.4.1 for
itemize/out-format/list-only/selection and -x. Golden wire len/hash and
protocol version strings updated for 2.23.0.
RSYNC_COMPAT Phase-2 row M: path-list construction and destination
directory creation while preserving traversal safety.
- -R/--relative with --files-from: transmit each listed entry under its
bare relative destination path (no source-root mirror). Files keep an
absolute local read path plus a separate wire/dest path (File.send_path);
manifest, incremental quick-check and change output follow the wire path,
so --delete and --remove-source-files stay consistent. -R without
--files-from is unchanged (full mirror).
- --no-implied-dirs: client-only, only meaningful with -R + --files-from.
A listed file whose parent dir is not itself (or via an ancestor)
explicitly listed cannot be placed; the run fails up front with a clear
error. No effect otherwise.
- --dirs/-d + --old-dirs/--old-d aliases: -d <dir> transmits the source
root as an explicit empty directory entry (STATUS_MKDIR frame); with
--files-from listed dirs are created empty and listed files transferred,
never descending. Works single-threaded, -m (sequential scanner in the
-m scan thread) and chunk-serialization (per-file type marker).
Directory entries appear in the delete manifest.
- --mkpath: new wire bool; server creates the destination root (and missing
leading components under its authorized root) at connection start. A
missing destination root is now rejected by default.
- Protocol bumped to 2.7.0 (mkpath wire field + STATUS_MKDIR + chunk type
marker). All receive paths funnel through file_save_to_disk_full which
creates directories via the secure confined mkdir engine; dir entries are
excluded from --remove-source-files outcome acknowledgements on both ends.
- Unit coverage: CLI parse (relative/dirs aliases/mkpath/no-implied-dirs),
config round-trip (relative + mkpath), scanner --dirs non-recursion and
-R send_path (sequential + parallel), receiver dir-entry save.
- Integration coverage: TestRelativeFilesFrom, TestNoImpliedDirs, TestDirs,
TestMkpath (single and -m).
- RSYNC_COMPAT: 4 rows move to Implemented (Summary 67/3/5/1/71 = 147).
Address c-review nits on the itemize/output feature:
- RSYNC_COMPAT.md: state that %b is the source length (always == %l) because
no wire-byte counter exists; keep Summary equal to the matrix (recounted:
54 implemented / 84 not-implemented, 147 rows total - four rows flipped).
- change_list.h/.c: document bytes_sent == size; note itemize/out-format lines
never interleave with each other but may interleave with legacy log
messages sharing the stream; mark the %M stat() path best-effort.
- change_render_format scan in format_uses_mtime now mirrors the tokenizer
(skips '%%' and unknown '%X' pairs) so a literal '%%M' no longer triggers
the stat() fallback.
- Integration tests: --list-only under -m; a changed file on a second
--incremental run emits exactly one '>f' line while unchanged files print
nothing; --log-file + --log-file-format under -m.
Implement rsync-style itemized output backed by one shared change-event
engine (src/client/change_list.c):
- -i/--itemize-changes prints ">f+++++++++ <path>" for files actually sent
(single-threaded and -m); unchanged files print nothing.
- --list-only prints an ls-style listing of files that would be transferred
without contacting the server or writing anything.
- --out-format=FORMAT prints a printf-style template per changed file
(tokens %%f %%n %%l %%b %%M %%%%; unknown escapes preserved).
- --log-file-format=FMT logs each transferred file when --log-file is set.
Events are emitted from the per-file sender path shared by both transfer
modes, so the single sender thread is the only reporter (no races).
